High School Curriculum

English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR)

MyPerspectives prepares students to be resilient readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators. The high school curriculum at Legacy Traditional School – Basse aligns with Texas state standards and embeds English language proficiency standards throughout the lessons. This curriculum offers robust opportunities for learning and enrichment and allows students ample opportunities to strengthen their reading, writing, analysis, and discussion skills. The textbook series, HMH® Into Literature Texas, provides a connected stream of content for all four grades levels. Students are exposed to essential questions, rigorous academic vocabulary, and both literary and informational texts from classic and contemporary genres. The curriculum offers instruction in tasks such as: personal, explanatory, argumentative, and narrative essays, research reports, literary analyses, and short stories.

Math

HMH® Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 address math standards and turn students into problem solvers who master concepts, become fluent with procedures, and apply the principles they’ve learned to real-world situations. While presenting algebra and geometry in a traditional three-course path, HMH AGA delivers this content with an innovative, adaptive approach, offering the rigor, depth of coverage, and guidance needed to prepare students for success on high-stakes assessments, in college, and in their careers.

Students who excel in math are able to move beyond school offered math courses and take accelerated math courses at local institutions.

Social Studies

The Texas social studies curriculum provides students with extensive social studies content geared toward learning through foundational practices. Aligned to TEKS and intended to broaden and deepen student’s understanding of history, each chapter contains a variety of modalities to engage in the content. Students are assessed formatively and summatively throughout the units and chapters to ensure processing of the standards and performance expectations.

Science

Students will deepen their understanding of scientific concepts and practices with In high school, students will extend their understanding of scientific concepts using the HMH Biology, Chemistry, and Physics curriculum. This curriculum is built on a multimodal approach with an infusion of inquiry to help students become curious and active learners.
