English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR)
MyPerspectives prepares students to be resilient readers, writers, thinkers, and communicators through collaborative, self-directed, and critical learning. By providing a research based pedagogy, students are given the opportunity to engage in multi-genre texts, make powerful reading-writing connections, develop literacy routines such as close reading, participate in project-based inquiry, and conduct literacy circles and Book Clubs through interactive and digital resources. Aligned with TEKS, MyPerspectives provides students with purposeful, embedded, formative and summative assessments in addition to STAAR test-formatted question banks and TEKS practice and prep to ensure mastery of state standards.
Math
GO Math! for grades 6-8 incorporates the latest thinking in its comprehensive approach and engages students through multiple mediums. Students are given equal exposure to conceptual understanding, fluency, and application which builds and reinforces foundational math skills that translate from the classroom to real life. It uses mathematical standards to address students’ needs to ensure success on rigorous assessments.
Science
Students will deepen their understanding of scientific concepts and practices with ScienceFusion, an interactive collection of workbooks and hands-on activities. Students will continue building on the concepts taught in elementary school. Students will question their natural surroundings, carry out investigations, analyze data, draw conclusions, and share what they learn with others. Topics covered in middle school science spread across all disciplines of science, including physical, life and earth science. Students’ success will be measured formally and informally using written assessments, as well as in-class lab activities.
Social Studies
Students learn about Texas History and US History through Reconstruction. The Texas social studies curriculum provides students with extensive social studies content geared toward learning through foundational practices such as reading, writing, and discourse to support conceptual and application understandings. Aligned to TEKS, units are designed to support exposure to multiple modalities of the same content, text, and learning activities. Intended to broaden and deepen student’s understanding of history, each chapter contains a variety of modalities to engage in the content. Students are assessed formatively and summatively throughout the units and chapters to ensure processing of the standards and performance expectations.
